CEEPUS international summer school "New challenges in contemporary animal production"

For the fifth year in a row, the Faculty of Agrobiotechnical Sciences Osijek, Josip Juraj Strossmayer University in Osijek has organized an international summer school from 1 to 5 July 2024, this time with a slightly different topic and title: New challenges in contemporary animal production.

The international summer school was organized through the CEEPUS mobility program and the Agriculture and Environment in the 21st Century - @groen network. The Faculty had the opportunity to host 8 teachers and students from three partner universities: the University of Ostrava from the Czechia, the University of Szeged from Hungary and the University of Maribor from Slovenia.

During five days, students and teachers had the opportunity to learn about the work of the Faculty and University, present their universities and their activities, participate in lectures and workshops related to modern animal husbandry, and take part in a themed pub quiz.

After the welcoming words, the first lecture about Josip Juraj Strossmayer University in Osijek and the Faculty of Agrobiotechnical Sciences Osijek was opened by Dr. Daniel Haman, institutional CEEPUS coordinator. After the presentation, Dr. Haman continued his presentation about the CEEPUS program at the Faculty, since the Faculty of Agrobiotechnical Sciences Osijek is one of the successful participants of the CEEPUS program in Croatia with over 300 completed outgoing and incoming mobilities in the last 6 academic years. After that, the participants had the opportunity to present their universities.

Professors of the Faculty of Agrobiotechnical Sciences Osijek, Prof. Dr. Goran Kušec, Prof. Dr. Ivona Djurkin Kušec, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mislav Đidara, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tina Bobić, Prof. Dr. Vladimir Margeta and Assist. Prof. Dr. Željka Klir Šalavardić during the next few days talked about animal welfare, climate change and food products obtained from animals and in the laboratory. In addition to the lectures and workshops, the school participants had the opportunity to evaluate the Slavonian kulen and visit the State Lipizzaner Stud in Đakovo and learn more about the tradition of horse breeding in the oldest stud farm in Croatia.
